The Shannons Adelaide Rally is the largest tarmac rally in the southern hemisphere, with 422 cars entered in this year’s event.
With a large contingent of Touring participants in a variety of prestige, historic and rare vehicles, the Rally is a significant tourism event for South Australia, taking in four distinct tourism regions: the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula and McLaren Vale.
A large number of entrants come to South Australia from interstate: this year we have 69 vehicles coming from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and Western Australia. Given the uncertainties of COVID-19, this is a huge vote of confidence in the event and a big boost for tourism businesses in the state.

This year marks 25 years since the Classic Adelaide Rally first ran in 1997. In the quarter of a century since that first event, tarmac rallying has been embraced by South Australians and the Shannons Adelaide Rally now boasts the largest field of any tarmac rally in the southern hemisphere.
The Rally capitalises on Adelaide’s unique geography, which features the magnificent scenery of the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, Fleurieu Peninsula and McLaren Vale in close proximity to the city, creating a world-class driving experience for participants and bringing visitation and international exposure to these key tourism regions.
Along with spirited competition, the Shannons Adelaide Rally delivers an unparalleled opportunity for Tour category entrants to experience the freedom and challenge of closed road stages on our sensational roads.
As we celebrate this milestone we also look forward to the next 25 years of top-shelf tarmac rallying.
